The Antlers are a Brooklyn based band fronted by Peter Silberman. Their debut album, “Hospice,” is the result of front man Silberman’s “self described year and a half exile upon moving to New York City,” according to “Under the Radar” magazine.
The album is an extended creative writing project of sorts. Silberman used his introversion to identify with the characters in his ballads. “Hospice” centers around a man watching his girlfriend slowly die of bone cancer.
After a relationship “destroyed him,” according to UTR, Silberman “translated the experience into vivid descriptions of death, memory and regret.” These themes are prevalent and almost overwhelming throughout “Hospice.” Silberman maintains that it was not his intention to make a “depressing album,” although songs include “Kettering” and “Wake.” The band has been receiving positive reviews on both the album and their live shows.
The Antlers will be performing at the Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan on Dec. 15, 2009.

You know how the saying goes ‘sex sells’, but does it really go too far. Recently, my roomate and I were watching a commericial and it was so sexual that we would have never imagined that it had anything to do with perfume or jeans. All we said was, “What’s with that?” I believe that you are still able to sell those products without all the excess sexual content…its soo weird.

It has been 9 years since the soft singing R&B songstress, Sade released her last album entitled, ‘Lovers Rock’. And I must say I loved the album so much and since then craved more of her music. No one does music like her, and therefore she is a legend in my book.
If her strategy was to keep her fans on their toes, well it certainly worked. This time the classy and soulful queen of what I call ‘real love music’ has finally emerged from the ‘wood works’ and has quietly dropped her lastest new album entitled, ‘Soldier of Love’. What I admire about her songs is how each track tells a unique story about a topic that may not even relate to the song before or after it, but for some reason it just flows. I just can’t wait to sit, kick back, and listen to her newest album.

Rihanna didn’t let the assault with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown, last Feburary get the best of her. With 5 albums under her belt and 29 songs that topped music charts, Rihanna is back and showing her dark side in her new Album entitled,’ Rated R’. The first track that played on the album was ‘Welcome to the Mad House,’ which was the same song she began her performance with at the 2009 American Music Awards (AMA’s) recently. In my opinion, the song was really gloomy and dark as with the entire album. I must repeat: It was really dark. Although Rihanna has had some dark songs in her previous album, ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ , it was nothing compared to this new one. I truly hope this is just a phase for her. Because if it this same gloomy type of music carries on to her next album…hmmm I don’t know if I would still be interested in listening as much. And are you not wondering?: Whatever happened to the sweet island girl from Barbados? Take a look at this clip of her back in the day, I know it will bring back memories of the Rihanna the “sweet island girl” we once knew.

Yes, little Dora the Explorer, adored by many young children for more than ten years on T.V has grown up and is stirring up much controversy among the parents of young children on a global scale.
Nickelodeon/Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP) made a decision to introduce a whole new way to look at Dora for Dora fans five years and up. This revolutionary initiative, featuring fashion dolls and accessories. Both companies believe that the new brand extension will empowers girls to influence and change the lives of Dora and her new friends.
According to nydailynews.com:“Dora the Explorer has been one of the most successful properties for nearly a decade, with an average of 21.1 million viewers, including 6 million preschoolers, tuning into the television show each month,” explained Leigh Anne Brodsky, president, NVCP. “We are thrilled to partner with Mattel to develop this brand extension that will enable girls to continue to learn and interact with their Latina heroine, Dora, as they grow up together.”
In my opinion I think the toy companies should have left little Dora alone. We have to many “grown up” dolls being marketed already, such as those skimpy looking Bratz or ‘boy obsessed’ Barbie dolls. One thing I really couldn’t help but speak about, is how Dora has now moved to the city and is now in middle school, ok cool, your in middle school, but the city? Isn’t she a bit too young to be making those type of moves, considering the fact I still live at home with my parents as do most college students in their twenties. And I wonder what type of topics Dora will focus on now? Boys? Make up? I guess we will just have to watch and see.
