What’s With Those Sexual Commercials Trying To Sell…Jeans or Perfume?

Courtesy images http://www.greatvalueplus.net/curious.jpg

You know how the saying goes ‘sex sells’, but does it really go too far.  Recently, my roomate and I were watching a commericial and it was so sexual that we would have never imagined that it had anything to do with perfume or jeans.  All we said was, “What’s with that?”  I believe that you are still able to sell those products without all the excess sexual content…its soo weird.

Rihanna Is Back…With a Dark Side

Courtesy Images  justjared.buzznet.com

Rihanna didn’t let the assault with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown, last Feburary get the best of her. With 5 albums under her belt and 29 songs that topped music charts, Rihanna is back and showing her dark side in her new Album entitled,’ Rated R’.  The first track that played on the album was ‘Welcome to the Mad House,’ which was the same song she began her performance with at the 2009 American Music Awards (AMA’s) recently.  In my opinion, the song was really gloomy and dark as with the entire album. I must repeat: It was really dark.  Although Rihanna has had some dark songs in her previous album, ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ , it was nothing compared to this new one.  I truly hope this is just a phase for her.  Because if it this same gloomy type of music carries on to her next album…hmmm I don’t know if I would still be interested in listening as much.  And are you not wondering?: Whatever happened to the sweet island girl from Barbados?  Take a look at this clip of her back in the day, I know it will bring back memories of the Rihanna the “sweet island girl” we once knew.

5 Winter Trends for Girls

For the fashion conscious, there are some must-haves that the stylists at People Magazine have considered to be the most trendy for winter. I have broken down the list which consisted of 15 items and shortened it to 5 items. These are based on what I have seen on campus and are each a different type of garment.

1.  Leather jackets

2. Over-the-knee boots

3. Printed scarves

4. Lace tights or colored tights

5. Slouchy beanie hats

Twitter goes Couture

The Italian Issue of Vogue has a very interesting cover for this month. It’s a collage of models taking pictures of themselves. Gisele Bundchen makes an appearance, hiding her pregnant belly. An editorial inside is rumored to also have been shot in the same Twitpic style. This is a new idea for fashion, especially magazines.

Luxury Cell Phones…Are They Worth It?

Cell phones are expensive enough and the bills that go with it, but seriously there are phones that are worth thousands of dollars. Call it a fashion statement if you will but these beautiful pieces of technology are better worth looking at in a museum than buying. If you have the money then, by all means knock yourself out but all I know is that I just need a cell phone that will let me have good reception let alone function.

The Vertu, which is a British brand of luxury phones, debuted in 2002, and its newest model called the Constellation Ayxta. It goes for about $6,500, in stainless steel, while precious metal versions range up to $8,600.

Christian Dior, working with ModeLabs, the French manufacturer that TAG Heuer partnered with on the Meridiist, recently introduced the second-generation version of its luxury Dior phone. This phone up against iPhones and other “app phones,” falls short on functionality. They go for about $13,000 and ranges up to $50,000 for precious metal versions. These include a lacquered wooden docking station, complete with built-in speakers and a USB device for simultaneous backup and charging. Its touchscreen measures 3.2 inches, or 81 millimeters, high-definition video playback, 32 gigabytes of internal memory and a 8-megapixel camera. It runs on Google’s Android mobile operating system.

Black Friday Is Not That Scary

If your thinking of getting your Christmas shopping done early this year, then definitely take advantage of black Friday sales. Since the recession, it is harder now than ever to purchase items that usually are expensive and being a college student, I completely feel I never have enough money to spend on Christmas gifts. Black Friday can be intimidating with the long lines and throngs of people and the early sales but are worth it.

Instead of waiting until the last-minute, stores like Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Old Navy, and many others have great sales. Some of these stores open as early as 3:00 am like Old Navy, and 5:00 am for Best Buy. Target has Nikon cameras that go for as little as $88 and a Westinghouse 32″ LCD HDTV for only $246.

These deals are great and can be very useful for people who are concerned about buying gifts with a low-budget so take advantage!
