Recently CNN.com aired a clip about a surge in street vendors that sell food. The cost of becoming a street vendor versus a restaurant owner could be the reason why. One street vendor said it costs $30,000-40,000 to start as a street vendor. It could cost more than a $1,000,000 to start a restaurant especially in New York City. In addition they can make from $100-$700 per day.
I have to admit that I’m leery of eating from a street vendor. I wonder about the cleanliness, but the report revealed there are strict standards for vendors and they are inspected often. Maybe I’ll buy something besides a pretzel when I’m in city next time.
